There are still no specific details about the condition of retired German racing driver Michael Schumacher, 47. However, former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, 68, recently implied that there is still hope for the seven-time Formula One World Champion's recovery.

"I'm very pleased to know that he is reacting," di Montezemolo said of Schumacher in an interview with CNN. He did not explain the details but he added that Schumacher's strength and determination will help him recover.

"I know how strong he is," di Montezemolo told the publication. He added that he is sure that thanks to Schumacher's determination, "which will be crucial, he will come out from this very, very difficult situation."

As a seven-time Formula One World Champion, Schumacher is considered one of the best Formula One drivers of all time. It was di Montezemolo who presided over his five world titles with the Scuderia between 2000 and 2004.

On Dec. 29, 2013, Schumacher was crossing an unsecured off-piste area while skiing with his son Mick Schumacher in a ski resort in the French Alps when he fell and hit his head on a rock. The retired racing driver was wearing a ski helmet, which saved him from death but was not enough to keep him from sustaining a head injury.

Due to traumatic brain injury, Schumacher was put into a medically induced coma. In 2014, he was withdrawn from the medically induced coma, regained consciousness and was allowed to leave the hospital for further rehabilitation in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Eventually, Schumacher was relocated to his home in Switzerland. He continues to receive specialist treatment while his family is very protective when it comes to revealing details about his physical state.

Meanwhile, a teenage skier recently died after catapulting over a safety fence at the same resort where Schumacher had an accident. In December 2015, Louis Ross, 17, veered off course and crashed while on a winter holiday with the family of his best friend George Legget at Meribel in France.

Despite medics' extensive efforts, Ross did not survive. He fractured his skull while his own ski poles may have hit him in the throat, Mirror has learned.
