The Nexus 2016 smartphones and Nexus 7 2016 tablet have yet to pop out in the ongoing Google I/O 2016 but the mobile operating system to power the mobile devices is all but known as Android N. Google has revealed what the new OS is capable of and in the process highlighted the fresh feature upgrades packed with the next Nexus.

Android N, according to BGR, remains unnamed at this time and it appears that Google is leaving it to Android fans to come up with the sweetest label for the follow up to Marshmallow. But with or without the sweet treat of a name, Android N has been scheduled to begin rolling out come summertime or June this 2016 and perhaps with it the next Nexus device.

What could prove as banner improvements stuffed with the new Android are performance and graphic boosts, the latter anchored on the new API called Vulcan. Google said that with Vulcan, Android N is smoother, faster and leaner compared to its immediate predecessors. The target is for application size to be trimmed down by up to 50 percent, paving the way for faster download and easier install.

Bolstered security features were also given due attention on the new Android. Google said updates and security patches will download and install automatically on Android N as a robust way of providing protection to users with less required actions on their part. Google promises a seamless update experience starting off with Android N.

The OS encryption will also switch from block-based to file-based, which the tech giant said will offer tougher security measures.

And as hinted in previous beta versions of the OS, optimal productivity will play a big part on Android N with native support for Split Screen or viewing apps side by side. This feature can both enjoyed on phones and tablets while a version will be offered too on Android TV, to be known as Picture in Picture.

Also, the Android N user interface has been recoded to kill applications no longer required while offering quick access to frequently-used apps. The bottom line is for increase productivity, which Google said applies across the board, benefitting both smartphone and tablet users.

The Android N feature upgrades mentioned all point to better productivity regardless of screen sizes though they appear better optimized for large-screen devices, which somehow confirmed two things. First, the Nexus 2016 smartphones will continue to sport upsized display and the likely comeback of the Nexus tablet.

The latter, according to rumors, will come from Huawei and bear the name Nexus 7 2016. HTC, on the other hand, is said to produce two Nexus 2016 phones for Google. The release date for any of the devices could happen within or right after the Google I/O 2016.
