Another Hollywood franchise movie is set to open in the mainland on June 3. It is “X-Men: Apocalypse,” the sixth installment of the X-Men film franchise.

Global Times reported that the main cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse," led by actor Evan Peters, actress Sophie Turner and director Bryan Singer, attended a press conference on Wednesday in Beijing to promote the movie.

The film is set in the 1980s. It is a progression from the 2011 “X-Men: First Class” and 2014 “X-Men: Days of Future Past” which took place in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively. For the fourth and fifth franchise of the film, the world knew about the mutants and have mixed feelings for the group.

Apocalypse, the world’s first mutant, wakes in the sixth franchise after several centuries of sleeping and is set to destroy the world with help from the Four Horsemen.

Peters, who plays the role of Quicksilver, and Turner, who plays the role of Jean Grey, also attended several promotional activities for the sixth franchise on Wednesday and Thursday in Beijing.

Singer said at the Wednesday press conference, “[This one] deals with the ideas of ancient mutants and also the introduction of new characters in their younger forms, like Jean Grey, for new audiences as well as fans of the previous films.”

The director disclosed that in one scene with Quicksilver, it took Peters one and a half month to shoot two minutes of the movie. For the sequence alone, the lead actor worked 17 days since it involved a lot of complex physical and visual effects.

However, Newsday pointed out that because women rule the sixth franchise, the movie should have been titled “X-Persons: Apocalypse” instead of “X-Men: Apocalypse.”

Actress Olivia Munn, who took over the role of Betsy Braddock/Psylocke, said, “It’s important to realize the power that the women hold in this movie, and how great it is … And how much damage it can cause.”
