The next iPhone camera bump will see the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 equipped with laser autofocus while the phablet-size iPhone 7 Plus will have a dual-camera set up and up to 256GB of internal memory. These rumored feature upgrades are the latest suggestions from newly-leaked components images, according to a new report.

Picking up the latest claims from French blogger Steven Hemmerstoffer, 9to5Mac reported that Apple will boost the camera capabilities of the 2016 iPhones. The smaller edition is not getting much on the hardware shooting upgrade but it is likely will have laser autofocus. The notable jump is for the 5.5-inch 7 Plus.

It should be noted though that laser autofocus will mean that the smaller iPhone "will have improved low-light performance as well as faster auto focus overall as the camera will better know the distance to the subject," the report added.

The supersized iPhone, 9to5Mac said, will boast of dual-lens camera that will be sourced from two suppliers - Sony and LG. In a related report, Apple is said to tap LG as the key partner on the project as Sony is reportedly encountering productions issues that will impact on dual-lens output. So to make sure that its next iPhone production and release calendar will not be delayed, Apple has decided to order more camera components from the South Korean firm, MacRumors said.

The camera adjustments planned for the next iPhones, specifically for the iPhone 7 Plus, will permit users to produces images with DSLR quality.

And as part of the iPhone camera upgrade, Apple will also provide enough room for users to store their captured moments - both pictures and videos. The same 9to5mac report said that for the iPhone 7 Plus, the storage configurations will be 16GB, 64GB and 256GB, indicating that the 16GB will remain as the basic model while the 128GB will be replaced by the 256GB edition.

For the regular iPhone 7, the storage configuration will mirror the existing model, which would be 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Rumors indicate that Apple is focusing on camera upgrades for the 2016 iPhones, somehow suggesting too that the build and design of the upcoming refresh will for the most part reflect what were in the past two editions. But there likely will be key physical changes such as the ditching of the home button and the 3.5mm audio jack that could further slim down the next iPhone profile. The back finish is said to be cleaner too with the antenna band pushed farther on the edge of the device.

On release date, which likely will happen between August and September 2016, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will rock in A10 processing chip (and possibly with M10 co-processor) and iOS 10, the latter Apple is expected to reveal in advance via the WWDC 2016 this coming June.
