Top WWE superstar John Cena has missed the past five months due to an injured shoulder but he is ready to return on the May 30 episode of Monday Night Raw. According to the latest rumors, Cena may resume his feud with Alberto Del Rio once he makes his triumphant return.
The 15-time WWE World Heavyweight champion was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder in January. He underwent surgery to repair the injury and doctors gave him nine months of recovery time.
However, Cena proved that he is a superior athlete as he returned on WrestleMania 32 to help his former rival, The Rock, fight off The Wyatt Family. He was only cleared for limited contact but he was just about a month away from full clearance.
It is uncertain when Cena suffered the injury but many believed that it was wear and tear of wrestling and power lifting for many years. Before the injury, he was in a feud with Del Rio over the United States championship.
According to Cageside Seats, one of the plans for Cena's return will be resuming his storyline with Del Rio. Even though the Mexican is no longer the U.S. champion, it makes sense for Cena to go after the man that kayfabe put him on the shelf.
The leader of Cenation lost the U.S. title to Del Rio at the "Hell in a Cell" pay-per-view in October 2015. He was then given time off to film his current TV show "American Grit" on FOX.
The five-time U.S. champion returned on the December 28, 2015 episode of Raw in a rematch with Del Rio. He won via disqualification but was diagnosed with the injury afterwards.
Cena is also scheduled to face Del Rio on WWE live events throughout the summer that could lead to more speculations about the plans for him, Sportskeeda reported. Both superstars will also be featured on "Total Divas" due to their real-life relationships.
The 39-year-old Cena has been in a relationship with Nikki Bella while Del Rio recently broke the internet when it was confirmed that he is dating Paige. A rivalry between Cena and Del Rio may also be used to create more attention to "Total Divas."
