The upcoming android operating system has no official name yet. Android N is expected to follow the trend of Android names based on a dessert beginning with "n."

Google asks consumers for suggestions through android.com/n where people can suggest "N" names. Google will choose the official name of the said OS. Aside from its much-awaited official name, new features that come with Android N are already being talked about.

According to USA Today, the Android N is expected to feature a split screen mode, simpler multitasking, more interactive notifications, longer battery life, security tweaks and more efficient apps. Via split screen mode, Android devices enable users to run two applications simultaneously, either side by side or one stacked above by the other.

In addition, switching apps will be easier with the Android N as it will display every app the user has opened, and will close apps which have not been used for a while. With its improved interactive notifications, Android N will allow the user to respond to a messaging app where a "reply" option will be displayed alongside the notification.

The new OS will also improve the battery life of android devices as it will suspend activity of unused apps especially when the device is just inside a pocket. Moreover, apps will be even more efficient as Android N will be trimming down their storage needs. Security tweaks for media will also be available as it will restrict the device more with the new Android N.

Another report by CNet stated that Android N will come with a Google Assistant, a feature similar to iPhone's Siri. This will allow users to engage with a more organized conversation with the device and its apps. It will also allow them to conduct tasks like research, scheduling and even making reservations.
