Thousands of fans showed up for Song Joong-ki’s fan meet in Guangzhou on Friday, May 27, at the Guangzhou International Sports Arena which could seat up to 18,000 people.
No mainstream South Korean newspapers such as Soompi, AllKpop, Yonhap and Korean Herald seems to have covered the event. A search on Google would also not show any Chinese media coverage of the event, although Weibo or iQiyi possibly was there because there were postings on Twitter with the Weibo watermark on photos.
However, fans and fan pages posted right away on YouTube and Facebook images of the event.
An eight-minute, 46-second video on YouTube gave a glimpse of the fun that the “Descendants of the Sun” actor had with his fans. The clip opened with Song Joong-ki bouncing a white and red ball in the air which he grapples with a female fan to the delight of the audience who shrieked every time the “fight” for the ball ends in an embrace with the fan.
It appears that more than an embrace, the lucky fan also was given the ball with the actor’s autograph and a bracelet based on a tweet.
In another three-minute, 47-second video, Song Joong-ki is singing an English-language and Korean song.
The entire fan meet was also posted in a video that runs for two hours, 16 minutes and 10 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the Song Joong kiTh Facebook page for Thai fans and Philippine fan page, there are post of the photos of the fan meet.
The Hallyu actor, however, cannot rest yet despite the success of the Guangzhou fan meet because today, May 28, he holds another fan meet, still in Guangdong Province. The venue is the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center which has 20,000 seats.
