Microsoft is opening their Windows 10 Holographic platform for third-party manufacturers and they are including their Outlook Mail and Calendar app to the HoloLens augmented reality glasses.

While everyone is busy saving up for a new VR gaming rig with the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift, the Redmond-based tech giant is also busy developing their HoloLens product. The AR glasses is expected to bring a different experience than VR because it adds the virtual world into the physical reality and not the other way around.

The AR glass is not yet released and there is no definitive release date. However, the company's decision to open up the platform could mean that there will be more variants of the device.

There could be a possibility that there would be more than one Microsoft HoloLens as third-party manufacturers can now get a hold of the Windows 10 Holographic platform. There are still no companies that are planning to follow Microsoft's lead but the tech industry is full of surprises.

Just recently, the new NVIDIA GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 were revealed to be more powerful and cheaper than the last generation of graphics cards. It would make VR gaming rigs significantly cheaper and could push it to the mainstream.

Meanwhile, the Universal Windows Platform would allow developers to create apps that would run both on Windows 10 devices and the HoloLens itself. The Windows 10 Holographic platform can also help lower the price of the device as it would create more clones, The Next Web reported.

With the Developers Edition shipped worldwide, the development of apps and the hardware itself could progress at a faster rate. However, the price still needs to be driven down as the device currently costs $3000.

Microsoft has also released their Calendar and Outlook Mail app for the HoloLens, PC Magazine reported. Users can now view their emails and organize their schedules on a blank wall.

Hopefully, Microsoft's decision to release the Windows 10 Holographic platform for third-party manufacturers will result in more HoloLens releases in the future. The Outlook Mail and Calendar app are also nice additions for the users.
