AMD Polaris 10 card is the Radeon RX 470, could draw less power than Polaris 11 RX 480

AMD has officially revealed their Polaris 11 Radeon RX 480 video card but there are now reports of the Polaris 10 counterpart being the Radeon RX 470 which has not been officially announced yet.

During the live presentation of AMD at the Computex 2016 event in Taiwan, the Radeon RX 480 powered by Polaris 11 architecture was highlighted. What most people failed to see was that the Polaris 10 Radeon RX 470 card was also talked about for less than a minute before the presentation ended.

NVIDIA has not yet revealed their GTX 1060 video card yet but it seems like AMD is taking the lead on the low to mid-end spectrum of the GPU market. The $200 price tag on the newly revealed card could sway many buyers when it launches.

After the livestream event from the company, the Polaris 10 video card chip was revealed for several seconds. The Radeon RX 470 will also feature a variant dubbed as the Ellesmere Pro or the Polaris 10 Pro video card, Videocardz has learned.

The new card would use the same 14nm FinFET fabrication process as the Radeon RX 480, which has been shown to beat the GTX 1080 if two of them were used. Unfortunately, the other specs of the new card were not disclosed and it may come in another time.

With the reduced power rating the new cards are having, it could be possible that the Polaris 10 could drive it lower. The Radeon RX 470 could feature a TDP rating of just 100W, Techfrag reported.

NVIDIA's next move could dictate the tide of the video card battle. While the GTX 1070 seems to be the go-to card for budget-conscious PC gamers, the GTX 1060 could still beat the $200 Radeon RX 480 in terms of price to value ratio even if the company is known for its expensive GPUs.

AMD is still expected to officially reveal the Polaris 10 Radeon RX 270 video card which will join forces with the Polaris 11 RX 480 soon. The company could finally take the lead in the lower-end segment even if the GTX 1060 does arise.
