Following the massive success, "Descendants of the Sun" (DoTS) is rumoured to be returning for Season 2. Meanwhile, speculations and rumoured spoilers are running rampant. According to a report, Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki may not return due to busy schedules. The second season is said to be shifting its focus a bit to dig deeper into the story of the other couple, Sergeant Major Seo Dae-young, and Lieutenant Yoon Myung-ju.

At the same time, the show also told the story of Jin Goo's character Sergeant Major Seo Dea-young and Kim Ji-won's Yoon Myung-ju.

The show bagged awards in various categories such as Grand Award and Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo won awards for Male Popularity Award, Male Global Star Award, and Female Popularity Award and Female Global Star Award, respectively.
According to the website, "Descendants of the Sun" (DoTS) has been confirmed to return for the second season. It is said that the "public's insistent demand has forced" the network to bring back the show with a new story.
Earlier in April, Soompi reported that the head of KBS' drama department, Jung Sung Ho, teased the possibility of the show's season 2 or "Descendants of the Sun"-like drama in 2017.
"We want to repay viewers with the next 'Descendants of the Sun,'" Jung said. "We are grateful to viewers, overseas fans, staff, and actors. The drama was more than a domestic syndrome; it established a third wave of Hallyu. KBS will strive to produce a second "Descendants of the Sun" to meet expectations and repay viewers. We plan to launch a 2017 'Descendants of the Sun' project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team."
