HTC Android Wear Smartwatch updates: HTC Android smartwatch’s official market release delayed again due to design issues?; Expected to be released in September

Official market release of the HTC Android Smartwatch may again be delayed for the fourth time as what some rumors have suggested, but speculations about the specs are already very detailed.

The smartwatch was previously called HTC One Wear but it was later renamed Petra. As previously reported by PhoneArena, the official market release was expected this month but the release date may again be moved due to technical redesign concerns.

HTC has not yet made any official announcement about the specific features of the new smartwatch but there are some reasonable expectations from the public. Many of the speculated details are based on the features of previous smartwatch models and the current competitor models.

The new HTC smartwatch was initially speculated to be released with a companion device, the HTC One M9. The latter was launched in 2015 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Shanghai, China.

No HTC smartwatch was unveiled during the 2015 MWC, instead, HTC unveiled its first wearable device called Grip, but it was not a smartwatch by strict definition. The device was a fitness tracker, and though it featured a digital clock, it did not have the more advanced features of a true smatwatch.

HTC smartwatch was then rumored to be released February of this year, during the MWC 2016 event, but no unveiling took place. June was the next bet, but the latest reports speculate that the start of autumn in September may be the real target month.

Meanwhile, in terms of price competitiveness, the HTC smartwatch is within the range of other smartwatch brands like the Moto 360 of Motorola, which is being sold at £199 or about US$288.

According to reported specs, the HTC smartwatch could weigh 23 grams and it will have a PMOLED screen display measuring 1.8 inches. It will also be available in various colors such as teal, lime, black and blue gray.

HTC smartwatch is said to come in three sizes: small, medium and large. It is designed to last, as it features IP57-rated dust and waterproof protection.

In terms of computing power, the HTC smartwatch may use HTC's own real-time operating system (RTOS), which would allow it to be compatible with other pairing devices such as KitKat 4.4 of Android.
