Mass Effect: Andromeda developer BioWare has revealed new details about their latest installment in the ME franchise with regards to the direction of the story that they have taken.

Bioware said that they want to make players feel the excitement and awe from the very first ME from 2007 when they play Mass Effect: Andromeda. The actual details of the protagonist/s in the new game's plot has not yet been disclosed, however.

Another trailer was even shown during the EA press conference to generate hype for the new Mass Effect sequel. Both old and new alien species can be seen in the video along with another glimpse of the mystery protagonist.

Bioware said that the story of Mass Effect: Andromeda takes place in a more futuristic setting as the main character is ordered to travel millions of years forward, GameSpot has learned. There seems to be only a small possibility of meeting the characters from the previous games as the game will be set in a new galaxy called Andromeda, hence the name of the new installment.

The trailer has also paved the way for viewers to know what the protagonist's name is. A dog-tag in the trailer shows the word "RYDER" which could be a nickname or codename.

One plausible speculation is that it would indeed be the name of the main character considering that the first installments of Mass Effect used Shepard which is taken from Alan Shepard, the first American in space. This time, the character's name could be taken from Sally Ride who is the first American woman to set foot in space.

Mass Effect: Andromeda creative director Mac Walters told Kotaku: " If you go back to the original Mass Effect, there was that sort of awe of going to a new galaxy and meeting all these aliens for the first time-new races, new cultures, new civilizations. We want to bring that back."

Of course, the main character would still be human. However, the complexity of the in-game universe means that he or she will be considered as an alien too.

EA will be releasing Mass Effect: Andromeda sometime in the first quarter of 2017 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The original release date in 2016 has been delayed.
