Sami Zayn is one of the most likable WWE superstars right now but he has not gotten over the crowd completely. According to the latest rumors, the current storyline plan for Zayn is to have a losing streak that will lead to an underdog story like Daniel Bryan.

The 31-year-old started his wrestling career in the independent circuit as the masked luchador El Generico. He wrestled for promotions such as Pro Wrestling Guerilla, Chikara, Ring of Honor, Dragon Gate USA and Evolve before signing with the WWE in 2013.

Zayn started wrestling without the mask when he worked in NXT where he is a former NXT champion. He was called up to the main roster in 2015 but he was sidelined with a shoulder injury. He made his return at the Royal Rumble and resumed his feud with Kevin Owens.

According to Cageside Seats, Zayn will be booked to have a losing streak moving forward in order to get more fans behind him. WWE chairman Vince McMahon reportedly wants him to be the next Bryan, who went on to become one of the biggest superstars of the company.

However, it should be noted that Bryan's push was not planned and he got over by himself. His meteoric rise in 2014 also forced the WWE to change their WrestleMania 30 plans. It may still work on Zayn but fans tend to lose interest on superstars who loses a lot.

The WWE should be careful in booking the losing streak as Zayn might not recover from it. The last time the company used the underdog storyline was with Roman Reigns as part of their plans to push him as a top babyface.

It worked for one night but Reigns is not the underdog type of superstar due to his looks, build and family heritage. Nonetheless, there are a lot of similarities between Zayn and Bryan that the plan might work.

Both of them are undersized wrestlers and started their careers in the independent scene with many people saying they cannot make it to the WWE. Zayn is currently scheduled to be part of the Money in the Bank Ladder Match on Sunday, June 19.

According to FanSided, Owens is the favorite to win the match and hold the Money in the Bank briefcase. If KO goes on to win a world championship, Zayn is the perfect underdog to face him. They also have a rich history that the WWE can use.
