"Five Nights at Freddy's" movie, the long-awaited film adaptation of Scott Cawthon's indie survival video game series, has reportedly been delayed to release in mid-2018. Apparently, it has been a year since Warner Bros., announced that they had acquired the rights to adapt the game series to film, yet there is still no official word from its director Gil Kenan with respect to its much-awaited release date.

Hence, speculations are rife that the highly anticipated movie adaptation is not happening at all, stressing that Warner Bros., has reportedly scrapped the project. On April 21, the 39-year-old Israeli-British-American director implied on Twitter that the film is not cancelled, just in the long script development phase.

Kenan goes ahead to say that the script is still being worked on, as the people behind it are taking the movie seriously. It is said that in-depth details about the film will be made available to the public once the script is done.

Although nothing has been officially set in stone yet, it was learned that the movie adaptation will most likely make its theatrical debut on June 8, 2018, MNR Daily reported. It will be co-written by Kenan and Tyler Burton Smith.

Further, it will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment along with David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith of KatzSmith Productions. Despite the fact that the wait for "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie will probably be amplified, Grahame-Smith ensures that the long wait will be worth it, stating that they are teaming up with Cawthon "to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Adding on, the film is expected to feature an original story set in the same canon as the video game series with a slew of animatronics designed by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. In early 2015, Kenan implied that the film adaptation will feature a real full-size animatronics that would make the setting authentic and make a scarier impact to the viewers, as opposed to utilizing a Computer-Generated Image (CGI).
