The last time a Chinese girl became viral on the internet was an epic failure after a big patch of her hair was lost in a failed eating-corn-on-a-cob challenge in May.
A month after the embarrassing incident, another Chinese girl has become the latest sensation in Chinese social media after she painted a green frog on her mouth and then lip-synched pop songs. Because of the impressive artwork, it looks like it was the frog that was singing, pointed out Daily Mail.
To further create spice to her amphibian mouth, the young girl added big eyes that sparkled like anime on her real eyes on the screen, creating a psychedelic effect. Over the past few days, the video by Conglaibuqihashiqi has been viewed several million times on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter.
When reposted on Twitter and Facebook, the video clip also trended for several hours.
Among the songs that she lip-synched are “Sugar” by Maroon 5 and songs by several Taiwanese and Chinese artists such as Zhang Jiang, Wu Bai, Phoenix Legend, Power Station, Zhao Wei and Jay Chou.
The name of the amphibian on her mouth, ironically, is “Sad Frog,” even if it has brought smiles to millions of social media netizens.
The viral video made by the Chinese girl reflects the fascination of the country’s youth with smartphone apps. In April, it was the free Chinese My Idol app that was the talk of young people. The popularity of the app is due to its ability to turn selfies – another youth pastime – into digital avatars that the user could dress up and command to do several strange tasks, reported BGR.
Among the tasks the avatar could do are pole dancing, singing while riding motorcycles or lifting weights. Although available in the U.S. App Store, it is entirely in Chinese, although the developer is now developing an English-language version of My Idol.
