The "Future Trunks Arc" of "Dragon Ball Super" officially started on June 12. Based on the initial reception, it is clear that the arc is the best that the show has ever had. From the first scenes of destruction, to the rough and raw killing of Bulma and Mai by Black Goku, the new arc seems to be what fans of the franchise wanted.

Reportedly, Black Goku has contributed a great deal to the improvement of the TV ratings for "Dragon Ball Super," according to Attack of the Fan Boy. Episode 48 of the series managed to earn a high and admirable rating of 8.4 from viewers, setting a new record for "Dragon Ball Super" so far. However, this is not surprising considering the events that took place when the "Future Trunks Arc" started.

According to a different report by the same publication, episode 48 gave a storyline that is more mature and gritty than ever before in the history of "Dragon Ball Super." Initially, the show went a bit dark, but things apparently changed with the new arc. In fact, the murder of Bulma and Mai - two women who are so close to Trunks - proves that the "Future Trunks Arc" is very different from the previous ones.

Conventionally, "Dragon Ball" has been light and fun. Fans are used to seeing characters die and come back to life, as well as enemies ultimately turning into friends. With the current "Future Trunks Arc," it would be a single story where losses would be real, and the risks would be higher than ever before.

Central to the unexpected shift in the theme of "Dragon Ball Super" is the story's main villain - Black Goku. While the character has the same appearance as the series' fan-favorite character, Black Goku is cruel, strong, cold, and utter evil.

The body count in the current arc is already rising and the series creator Akira Toriyama has confirmed that Zeno and the Gods of Destruction would be involved in the fight. As a result, avid fans should get ready for an even better treat.
