The character of the fearless, merciless and angry Sith lord DarthVader may have been eliminated from the famous "Star Wars" series. However, the character is returning once again in the upcoming "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story," which is slated for release in December 2016.

"Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" is based on the things that take place before 1977's original "Star Wars." The Sith lord will be back to the heights of his power in the first standalone movie by Lucasfilm, Entertainment Weekly confirmed in its "Rouge One" cover reveal.

Lucasfilm initially announced that "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" will focus on how the Rebel warriors planned the destruction of the first "Death Star." By then, the fans internally knew, or seriously expected Darth Vader to return to the screen through the film.

"Rouge One" is expected to be different from the original "Star Wars" trilogy as it is based on the event that take place outside the territorial core saga covered in the 1977 hit. In fact, it differs not just from the George Lucas' prequels in the form of the first three movies, but also J.J. Abrams' new trilogy that started with "The Force Awakens." The new trilogy will continue in 2017 with Episode VIII, which is being directed by Rian Johnson.

Meanwhile, a number of standalone movies are also being planned and "Rouge One" is the first one in the lot. The next standalone film after "Rouge One" is based on the story of Han Solo, how he became the captain of the Millenium Falcom before meeting Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. The Han Solo movie is expected to release in 2018, that is, after the release of Episode VIII.

While the "saga" films primarily focused on the Skywalker family, the Skywalkers will be completely missing from "Rouge One." This is probably one of the biggest differences between the two sets of film that explains the entire storyline.

When asked whether the characters from the original trilogy will appear in "Rouge One," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, "I think we can talk about Vader."

This is probably the main things that the fans were waiting to hear all these years. Whatever be the storyline, the fans will be happy with one of the most iconic villains in the history of Hollywood.

Currently, the team is planning to reshoot a few scenes of the film, according to IGN. Earlier it was rumored that Disney was unhappy with the way some scenes have been shot. However, film makers later quashed the rumors stating that reshoots were always planned for the movie.
