Trunks is shocked to see Goku alive and Goku tells him that a lot has happened. "Dragon Ball Super" episode 49 picks things up from episode 48.

"Dragon Ball Super" episode 49 - recap and review
The episode starts with where episode 48 ended and the narrator reveals that Trunks has travelled 17 years into the past. Trunks asks Goku about how come he is alive.
Meanwhile, Lord Beerus and Whis figure out that the entire incident is a case of time travelling involving Trunks. Elsewhere, Pilaf Gang is still calling the entire episode a scandal as they closely look at Future Trunks and Kid Trunks.
Bulma intervenes and explains the gang that kid Trunks and Future Trunks are same. However, they belong to different time periods. Kid Trunks is overwhelmed to know that the young man is his version from the future.
Later, in "Dragon Ball Super" episode 49, they all head out to see the time machine and Bulma tells them that it is her invention. Future Trunks states that he would time travel and come to this time when kid Trunks was a toddler. Meanwhile, Whis is impressed that humans have built a machine that can be used for time travelling. However, he points out that time travelling or manipulating time is a crime.
The episode showcases the future and Goku Black is confused about being unable to find Trunks. The ki of Trunks is nowhere on the planet, but his ring suddenly reacts. He calls it the Time Ring and it creates a dark portal.
Meanwhile, Whis explains the concept of time and how it should head in one direction. He adds that if someone travels in the past and pluck a flower, it could have drastic effects later. It can change the face of the planet and even destroy it.
Trunks is surprised to know that Whis is talking about Gods and Bulma tells him that Beerus and Whis belong to the world of Gods.
Beerus enters and announces that he can destroy them for using the time machine and Bulma tries to clarify that her future-self built the machine.
Trunks begs Whis that he must spare them and Whis tells him that Beerus is the boss and he is just a servant. Trunks asks Beerus for mercy and the God of Destruction agrees with a condition. He wants them to treat him and Bulma gives them fish sausages.
"Dragon Ball Super" episode 49 also shows Kuririn and Piccolo in the fields and Chi Chi tells them about the emergence of the time machine. They quickly head to Capsule Corporation.
Bulma enters the time machine with Pilaf Gang to see the condition of the machine and she finds out that there is no fuel left in it. In the time machine, she finds a diary that is self- addressed.
Vegeta asks Future Trunks about what happened and did Majin Boo come. Trunks tells him that he was able to beat Babidi and Dabra and prevents the resurrection of Boo. But, later Goku Black appeared and he declared that he would destroy mankind for justice.
Goku Black has already destroyed numerous planets and the inhabitants. The Earthlings have been trying their best to control Goku Black but time is running out. He has killed many including Future Bulma.
Vegeta tells him that he should be ashamed of himself for leaving his mother behind. Bulma shows them the notebook she found and it has data and ways to generate fuel that would help Trunks to travel with present-day Goku and Vegeta in the future.
Goku wants to fight with Trunks to find out how strong Goku Black is. They start to fight after transforming their forms. Things start to shake up due to the energy and Bulma creates a shield to prevent any damage.
Trunks' strength is impressive and soon Goku goes into Super Saiyan 3 mode and blocks Trunks' attack with his fingers.
Towards the end of the episode, Piccolo and Kuririn have arrived and before they learn about what has happened, the portal opens and Goku Black emerges.
Goku Black acknowledges Son Goku and vice versa.
