Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series has included multiplayer games in the past and it seems the next one after Breath of the Wild could include a mode for multiple players. Zelda franchise producer Eiji Aonuma said that he would like to make another multiplayer Zelda game. He explained that game developers will experiment with the franchise launched by the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game in 1986.

Aonuma told IGN he wants to combine what he learned while making Breath of the Wild to make another multiplayer Zelda game.

Several past Zelda games had the multiplayer feature. They include Four Swords Adventures, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and Tri Force Heroes, according to GameSpot.

The Wind Waker also included a type of multi-player involving Game Boy Advance and GameCube.

Breath of the Wild was widely considered as the top game at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. A trailer for the new Nintendo game was launched at the yearly conference/show, and it was revealed a one-hour video posted only contains one percent of the game's total content.

The Nintendo game was a big hit on social media. It could be argued no other titles at the press conferences of Bethesda, EA, Sony, or Microsoft created as much buzz.

There are a few key reasons why The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a big success at E3. For example, it has been a long two-year wait since it was introduced at E3 2014.

Nintendo has also added some modern gaming trends into the new Legend of Zelda game. They include a check-point in the Hyrule mountains, and makeshift weapons that Link finds and uses.

There is also the fact that The Legend of Zelda is a brand that is three decades old. Few video game franchises have lasted that long.

In related news, virtual reality (VR) was trending at this year's E3, while Nintendo's booth only showed off its new Zelda game. Reggie Fils-Aime is president of Nintendo of America. He shared that Nintendo is not sure VR will become widely popular among consumers, according to Daily Herald

In the past Nintendo experimented with VR through the Virtual Boy handheld console. However, while Microsoft and Sony are developing augmented reality (AR)/VR headsets and VR-friendly consoles, Nintendo if focusing on VR experiments such as its 3DS handheld and Pokemon Go mobile game.
