Jamie and Claire's relationship are put to the test as "Outlander" Season 2 heads into the finale. Like most couples, the Frasers have gone through the ups and downs of marriage. But as the Battle of Culloden picks up speed, will their love story survive through it all?

In the promotional trailer for the season finale, Jamie asks Claire to go with him, but Claire is reluctant. The brief video ends with the couple parting ways. The show's executive producer, Maril Davis, teased that the season wrapper will be "so emotional" and "heartbreaking."

"I mean, Caitriona (Balfe) and Sam (Heughan) are heartbreaking," Davis revealed. "Get your tissues and your whiskey 'cause you're going to need it." Is this really the last fans will see Jamie and Claire together? Viewers will definitely go through a lot of heartbreak watching the couple part ways, but actress Caitriona Balfe assured that they're done for good.

"I think that they're soul mates; they're meant to be together," Balfe said in an interview with Los Angeles Times. "We're going to see them apart again and we're going to see how that affects them each individually. That's something I'm really looking forward to in season 3."

Moving forward with "Outlander" Season 3, which will based on Diana Gabaldon's book "Voyager," Jamie and Claire will still find themselves back in each other's arms, but the relationship will once again feel new to them.

"Obviously, having spent many years apart from each other, they're going to have to get know each other again, relearn how to love each other and accept each other for the people they now are because they will be very different people," Balfe said.

Will that difference have something to do with Laoghaire? In the books, Jamie is arranged to marry Laoghire. The character, played by Nell Hudson, will have a more prominent role in "Voyager."

"And in the [next] book, it's like [Laoghaire] becomes a character role. I think it would be a joy to do that. I think it would be hugely amusing. And she is married to Jamie. [Laughs] It's not an entirely bad situation," Hudson told TV Line.

The final episode of "Outlander" Season 2 will air on July 9.
