Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly preparing a summer swoop for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín as the Ligue 1 champions seek a potential replacement for departing superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Reports are out that Ibrahimović, who was the French top flight's top goalscorer in three of the past four seasons, is set to leave France and sign a one-year contract with English Premier League giants Manchester United on Friday after his contract with Les Parisiens expires the day before.
The Swedish captain's exit would leave a huge gaping hole in the middle of PSG's offense and so the team is rumored to be seeking an ideal striker that would replace him this summer.
Football Italia indicated that Les Rouge-et-Bleu, who also replaced head coach Laurent Blanc with former Sevilla manager Unai Emery, "have already made a move for Gonzalo Higuaín, who wants to leave Napoli".
The 28-year-old Argentina international's agent, his brother Nicolas Higuaín, said to have "unleashed a storm of discontent by declaring that the player did not intend to stay with his current club" and PSG is evidently ready to take advantage of the availability of last season's Serie A top scorer.
Higuaín's release clause with I Ciucciarelli is allegedly around £72 million and there are no immediate indications whether the French side is ready to pay the Italians that amount of money as of the moment.
His agent expressed extreme dissatisfaction about Higuaín's status in Naples, which is said to be the reason why his camp is not looking for a contract extension with the Serie A club.
Higuaín's brother assured that the striker will be professional in dealing with Napoli about his request for a transfer, but insisted that they will not anymore renew his contract that is due in 2018.
"We arrived with a Champions League project, of being champions, of growing, and the response of the company was not the most correct," said Nicolas in a radio interview, as per SkySports. "It's their right to ask for his buyout clause, but we will opt for the path of not renewing the contract and he will be free in 2018."
"In these conditions we are going to respect the contract that we have with Napoli but we are not going to renew it under any circumstances. Gonzalo is super professional and will continue to give the maximum," the agent added.
