Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson is the world's box office queen

Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in Marvel's "Avengers" films is the world's box office queen, named as the highest grossing actress of all time with an impressive local box office revenue of $3.3 billion. She is the only female and the youngest by 20 years in the top 10 prestigious list, landing in the 10^th spot.

The list of high-ranking celebs by the Box Office Mojo also contains the names of actors Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson and Eddie Murphy. Cameron Diaz is the second-highest grossing actress, who lands at No. 19. With Johansson and Diaz are Helena Bonham Carter at 26, Cate Blanchett (29), Julia Roberts (30), Elizabeth Banks (31), Emma Watson (32) and Anne Hathaway (50) among others.

Actor Will Smith is now No. 24. He was once the box office king, courtesy of the incredible success of "Independence Day" and "Men in Black." His collective projects made over $2.8 billion in the United States alone.

Smith became a superstar worldwide in 1996, making his biggest hit of $360 million from "Independence Day." At that time, Johansson was still starting in Hollywood at 13, with small roles in "Home Alone 3" and "The Horse Whisperer." Now a famous stars, movies that had Johansson earned $3.3 billion in the U.S.

While the roles of the Black Widow actress inside the Marvel cinematic universe were her biggest hits, she also starred in the successful action thriller "Lucy" in 2014. She appeared in "Hail, Caesar," "The Jungle Book" and "Captain America: Civil War" this year.

"I think every woman has [been underpaid]," the 31-year-old-actress told Cosmopolitan. She added, "But unless I'm addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious."

Johansson said the problem is part of feminism in general. She also expressed she is lucky for making a good living and proud to make as much as her male peers.
