The first officially confirmed news about the "Game of Thrones" Season 7 is out! The penultimate season of HBO's famous fantasy epic will be tackled by a team of four directors, including Alan Taylor, who is returning back to the show for the first time since 2012.

The "Game of Thrones" Season 7 show runners have decided to line up just four acclaimed directors to handle the 2017 season, accordingly to Entertainment Weekly. This is the first time that the show runners are planning to execute the show with the help of fewer number of directors. Considering the fact that each director previously had been assigned two episodes in a season, it is speculated that there could be fewer number of episodes in the penultimate season of the show.

However, HBO has not yet confirmed whether Dan Weiss and David Benioff are planning to reduce Season 7 to just six or seven episodes. If this is true, "Game of Thrones" fans can expect things to take place differently in the upcoming season.

Apart from founding "Game of Thrones" veteran who has also directed major films in the Hollywood, the other directors selected for the upcoming season include Mark Mylod, Jeremy Podeswa and Matt Shakman.

Taylor directed the ninth and tenth episodes of the "Game of Thrones " Season 1. The show runners were so impressed by Taylor's skills that they offered him to direct four episodes in the Season 2, including the premiere and the finale. He was then hired by the Marvel for "Thor: The Dark World" and "Terminator: Genisys," in which he reunited with "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke.

Meanwhile, the other "Game of Thrones" veterans, including "Battle of the Bastards" director Miguel Sapochnik and "The Red Wedding" director David Nutter, will be sitting out in 2017. However, it is speculated that they might return for the eighth and the presumed final season of the show.

"Game of Thrones" Season 7 is expected to premiere in April 2017, according to Den of Geek. However, the release date has not been confirmed yet.
