"Game of Thrones" fans looking forward for Season 7 seek to answer the question: "Who is Jon Snow?" During the GoT Season 6 finale, it was established that Jon is both a Stark and a Targaryen but it is the latter blood that will define what's next for the freshly-crowned King in the North, a new report said.
Before dying, Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark gave Jon Snow a different name that fits his high-breed origin. According to blog site Pref, Jon is actually Jaehaerys Targaryen, the name whispered by Lyanna to Ned Stark shortly before passing.
The infant child that the former Winterfell lord Eddard claimed as his bastard son became Jon Snow for him to live. The Targaryens were methodically eliminated down the child members of the family following the fall of the dynasty. Ned was fully aware that his friend, King Robert Baratheon, would not spare Jaehaerys or Jon Snow if he had known the real story.
And thanks to GoT avid fan and Redditor sparkledavisjr, the truth is now out that Jon Snow to become ruler of Westeros one day. From Winterfell, Snow will eventually rule from King's Landing as the new fan theory offered by sparkledavisjr indicated that Jon is the namesake of two Seven Kingdom kings - both Targaryen's and remarkable rulers.
Of note is Jaehaerys I, who effectively was Jon Snow's ancestor. He was a king who was given the prophecy that Redditors labeled as The Prince That Was Promised or PTWP. The old Jaehaerys was convinced that PTWP will be delivered through the Targaryens.
It was first thought that Rhaegar, Jon's father, was PTWP but the prince soon realized that it would be a child yet to be born and he would be part of the plan. With the prophecy in mind, Rhaegar pursued Lyanna, notwithstanding that the latter was already engaged to Robert. The two fell in love and eloped, and the baby Jaehaerys was born.
The shift of power in Westeros forced Ned to hide Jaehaerys' true identity and out came Jon Snow. But the young Targaryen will soon reclaim his destiny and basing on the history known about Jaehaerys I, the signs are there for the new Jaehaerys to follow same route taken by grandfather from generations ago.
One parallel cited by Pref is Jaehaerys I having a close and loyal friend named Barth as Hand of the King. For the younger Jaehaerys or Jon Snow, that would be Samwell Tarly. And all signs indicated that the third Jaehaerys "will ascend to the Throne and inherit its responsibilities, just like Jaehaerys The First did," Pref said on its report.
