"The Winds of Winter" will soon blow and "Game of Thrones" fans are in for bit of disappointment as showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss confirmed that Season 7 premiere of the hit television series will be delayed. "Winter is Coming," which apparently is the chief reason why HBO will not commence broadcast of the show in April 2017.
The push back will extend at least three weeks or May 2017 start of GoT Season 7 airing, iO9 reported, hinting too the show will run with fewer episodes than usual. Speculations are rife that Benioff and Weiss are set to deliver no more than 15 episodes to HBO for the last two seasons of Game of Thrones. The two previously indicated that 13 hours are left for them to work on.
And for next abridged season, Benioff and Weiss said that the fewer episodes will be mostly dark, gloomy and cold, echoing the hint dropped by the Season 6 finale titled The Winds of Winter. "We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season. Winter is here - and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes any more," iO9 reported the GoT showrunners as saying during a podcast interview with UFC Unfiltered.
"We kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot," the two added, somehow implying that much of Westeros will be covered in ice when Game of Thrones returns.
No further clues were included in the report but Benioff has somehow laid out in earlier reports a number of things to expect for Season 7. For one, Daenerys Targaryen has managed to muster a formidable army and naval force, and with her three fire-spewing dragons is ready to reclaim the Iron Throne. She was last seen presumably sailing for King's Landing.
There, Cersei Lannister will be waiting. The Queen Mother has just eliminated nearly all opposition to her rule and should be ready to incinerate would-be challengers to emerge.
And there is a new King in the North in the person of Jon Snow. Known as the illegitimate son of deceased Winterfell lord Eddard Stark, Snow is actually a mix of Stark and Targaryen and is likely to eventually rule the Seven Kingdoms later.
But as the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, Jon Snow could also be the Prince That Was Promise (PTWP) or the one to save Westeros from the Night King and his legion of invading White Walkers.
