Powerful snowstorms magnified by strong winds hit the U.S, northeast yet again sending temperatures plummeting up to 17 degrees Centigrade below normal.
The unending series of blizzards has made February the snowiest month in the history of Massachusetts. Boston was hit by its fourth straight snowstorm.
To the Southeast, communities were paralyzed by the storm of snow and ice, with hundreds of thousands of homes across the region losing electric service. Governors of Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia declared states of emergency.
Lexington, Kentucky found itself buried under 10 inches of snow with more expected on Wednesday.
The unrelenting blizzards brought bitter cold weather rattled the northeast and brought around 16.5 inches of snow in Boston, pushing the winter total to eight feet of snow and with more expected. The storms are expected to travel along the eastern part of the region andwill bring more snow and sub-zero temperatures to the northeast, according to BBC News.
Boston was forecast to receive several more inches on Tuesday.The DC area could experience from around four to eight inches of snow by Tuesday.
"For Louisville, it could be one of the worst (snowstorms) in 10 years," said meteorologist Joe Sullivan.
Upon learning the forecast on the southern part of the area, Gov. Terry McAuliffe called for a statewide emergency. Flights were also cancelled, schools were suspended for another day due to the Winter Storm Octavia, USA Today reported.
