Avid fans have been clamoring for any bit of information about the much-rumored "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" since its announcement in 2015. However, it seems that fans of the franchise should exercise their patience since the latest information indicates the remake's gameplay may not come out anytime soon.
Square Enix was expected to make some announcement about the upcoming remake during last month's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016, something that did not happen. The game's creative director Tetsuya Nomura finally said that if Square Enix decides to reveal any details about the upcoming remake, it would be big.
In an interview with Famitsu, which was translated by KH Insider, Nomura teased on the company's upcoming projects, including "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8," "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" and "Kingdom Hearts III." The director said that the much-awaited remake will happen, but he did not give any further information.
Nomura added that while he has no idea when details will come out concerning the remake, Square Enix is set to make it huge. Most likely, the company will hold "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" Active Time Report (ATR) event as opposed to unveiling some features in piecemeal.
Holding ATRs after other forms of press conferences has been a staple for previous titles in the "Final Fantasy" franchise, with such an event held recently for "Final Fantasy XV." Industry insiders as well believe that Square Enix may unveil the game news in the upcoming events like the "Dissidia Final Fantasy Tournament" and the "Kingdom Hearts First Breath," both of which are slated for August.
Meanwhile, producer Yoshinori Kitase initially confirmed that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" would be divided into multiple episodes. Kitase had an interview with Gamespot, wherein he said that the remake would be a full-scale game for each episode of the multipart series.
"In 'XIII,' each instalment told the story from a different angle," Kitase said. "It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory in a sense. Whereas with 'Final Fantasy VII Remake,' we already have a preexisting story, so it wouldn't really make sense if that isn't encompassed in a multi-part series."
