After dominating Mark Hunt at UFC 200, Brock Lesnar has a new task in-hand and it is facing Randy Orton at SummerSlam. According to the latest rumors, Lesnar is set to win his match again Orton regardless of the results of his UFC 200 fight.
The Beast had a very successful return to the Octagon as he defeated The Super Samoan via unanimous decision. He used his superiors wrestling skills to takedown Hunt and proceeded to pummel him with hard punches on the ground.
The UFC struck a deal with the WWE and promoted Lesnar's next fight at SummerSlam against The Viper. The 39-year-old received minimal damage from his bout against Hunt and he looks ready to go at SummerSlam.
According to Cageside Seats, Lesnar is not expected to lose against Orton at SummerSlam on August 21 in Brooklyn. It would be a bad move for the WWE to have him defeated after winning a legitimate mixed martial arts fight.
Even though it seems obvious that Lesnar will win, The Beast vs. The Viper is a fresh matchup and some may look at it as a dream match. Both superstars were part of Ohio Valley Wrestling's Big Four along with John Cena and Batista as the future of the WWE.
On the other hand, it seems like the success of Lesnar's UFC return could be bad news for the WWE and Orton. According to Zap2It, the former WWE and UFC champion will be gone again from television after winning at SummerSlam.
Lesnar is only a part-timer in the wrestling industry and Orton will not have anything to do after his lose. The report noted that it could lead to another CM Punk situation wherein an established superstar loses credibility following a defeat against an occasional wrestler.
However, Orton is not as egotistical as CM Punk, who left the company after not getting what he wanted. The WWE has heavily invested in The Viper since the early 2000s and he is still one of the most recognized names in the industry.
With the brand extension and "New Era" coming, Orton will be used as a stepping stone for the new superstars. At 36 years old, he still has a couple title runs or so in his career and it could be used to build up new stars.
As for Lesnar, he gets to do what he wants to do. He is an elite athlete that earns a lot of money for two of the biggest companies in the world.
