Chucklefish Games has announced that their successful Starbound game will finally be leaving Steam Early Access on July 22 for its official full Starbound 1.0 launch for PC gamers.

The side-scrolling space adventure game has been first announced and teased for more than four years and it is now getting a proper full launch. Starbound first arrived in Steam Early Access on December 13 and it has successfully sold more than a million copies in just a month after it was originally rolled out.

Starbound in a sense is highly similar to Minecraft. Both have procedurally generated worlds but the former is 2D instead of the latter's trademark 3D blocky style in graphics.

Players will also need to survive their worlds through upgrading their weapons and equipment just like in Minecraft. Perhaps the unique thing about Starbound is that it is set in space which would target sci-fi fans and players.

Starbound 1.0 will include new biomes and dungeons that were otherwise absent in its early versions, Polygon has learned. It was first announced in April and now they have revealed the Starbound 1.0 release date to be on July 22.

Chucklefish Games is also responsible for another Steam sleeper hit, Stardew Valley, which many consider as a better and improved version of Harvest Moon. The game has garnered much attention due to its attention to detail and easy to follow gameplay even for beginners and advanced players.

The new Starbound 1.0 launch will be available for Windows, Mac and Linux, Engadget reported. It will also come with full missions, stories and more characters which would really make it a full-pledged game that gamers will enjoy.

Starbound is also often compared to Terraria because they are both 2D side-scrolling adventures. The latter also has a crafting and upgrading mechanic similar to Minecraft which makes it more appealing for the same audience.

Chucklefish Games also announced that they are working on a version for the Xbox One early access program which could signal their plans for a console release sometime in the future. Starbound 1.0 will be launched on July 22 with more features and biomes for players to explore.
