Nightdive Studios' Kickstarter campaign for a System Shock remake has successfully been funded on their $900,000 goal and is currently receiving more funding with more than two weeks to go.

The System Shock remake Kickstarter campaign found success because of the demo Nightdive Studios has released on Steam. It was a short experience for players who wanted to see the first 10 minutes or so of the game itself.

Kickstarter campaigns are mostly denied of funding because the creators do not have much to show for their projects. Even John Romero's Blackroom campaign was pulled because they wanted to make a demo first.

Nightdive Studios is now focusing on the stretch goals for their System Shock remake including a cross-platform release, PC Gamer has learned. They are also planning to release the game with multiple languages besides English if they receive more funding until July 28.

The funding goal was reached with 14,000 backers over the weekend. At the time of this writing, the campaign has now over $950,000 and is still increasing. It could easily reach more than a million dollars in less than 24 hours.

If the funding reaches another $200,000 which is most certainly attainable at the current rate, the System Shock remake will be launched in other PC platforms. The System Shock remake could make its way to Linux and Macs as well, Polygon reported.

Nightdive Studios uses the Unity game engine which has improved a lot since it was first released five versions ago. It is a free game engine for aspiring game developers and the System Shock remake makes a good example of what can be done with Unity.

The System Shock remake demo can be downloaded through Steam, GOG.com and from the Humble Store. The most expensive pledge is $10,000 or more and the backer will receive the custom branded Tri-Optimum Custom System Shock Gaming Laptop.

As of this writing, the System Shock remake Kickstarter campaign has 15,330 backers with $957,297 in pledged funds. Nightdive Studios has also confirmed that they are open to more platforms in the future as many have been asking if they will also be releasing a PlayStation 4 version because of their planned Xbox One release.
