The release of "Resident Evil 7" demo gave the impression that the game was inspired by the playable teaser for Silent Hills, "PT." However, producer Masachika Kawata and director Koushi Nakanishi have come out to disprove such perspectives.

"Resident Evils 7" demo, just like "PT," sports the first-person camera, a closed play area, and the inability for gamers to defend themselves. Kawata and Nakanishi had an interview with Eurogamer, terming the similarities as mere coincidence.

"When 'PT' surfaced we were already into development and we were surprised to see it," Kawata said. "I'm worried about how my jokes come across but I hear Brits like black humor. So, out of everyone, we were the most relieved when 'PT' didn't come out."

Nakanishi added that they were already using a first-person point of view before anyone saw "PT" and therefore, it was not as though they copied "PT." It came as a surprise, and after seeing "PT" and the reaction, it was a signal for Capcom that it was the right direction to take.

The "Resident Evil 7" demo is a tonal preview much like "PT," which shows that it was not a direct slice of the game. Capcom initially promised fans that the final game will feature combat, puzzle solving, and resource management, just like the original "Resident Evil" game.

Speaking with PCGamesN, Nakanishi said that "Resident Evil 7" demo gives players a tonal preview as opposed to specifically providing a certain slice of the content that features in the final game. According to the director, it is very much a modified experience in the demo that the development team put together to show players the kind of things happening in the game.

The main difference between "Resident Evil 7" and "PT" is the fact that the former will not focus on supernatural. While there are events in the demo that appear to push the game towards more occult themes, fans are assured that it is still "Resident Evil."

"Resident Evil 7" has not turned into a ghost story. At one point, the developer considered everything and wondered what they could include for a supernatural dimension, but they did not end up taking that route.
