However, beyond saying that the producers would fast-track the filming of the movie to begin shooting in 2017, more details about the plot and story of the character were deliberately withheld.

The Verge revealed that the storyline of the upcoming movie is on the team up of a boy named Tim and Pikachu, the yellow electric mouse, to look for Tim’s missing father

Legendary Entertainment is a division of China’s entertainment giant, the Dalian Wanda Group. The entertainment website reported in April, even before Pokemon Go exploded in use across the globe, that Legendary was close to reaching an agreement with Pokemon Co.

Right after the July 6 launch of Pokemon Go in major cities around the world, Legendary moved to close the deal with the Japan-based owner of the character. The live-action movie would be distributed by Universal Pictures outside Japan where Toho would handle it.

Satoshi Tajiri created Pokemon in 1995 as a franchise of trading cards, TV shows, video games, movies and comic books that focus on the unique collectible characters. Since the first Pokemon film “Pokemon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back” was released in 1989, based on the property, 19 other movies have been made and shown.
