As for Thanos' motivation in the film, it is hinted that the Mad Titan seeks to "court death" itself as it was seen in the end credits of the first "Avengers" film similar to the comic book counterpart and wants to prove himself to death by causing destruction in the universe using the Infinity Gauntlet and its powerful stones.

Brolin shared his experience doing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he was really pleased on how the studio brought the character to life. Brolin commented on how Mark Ruffalo helped him out citing his friendship with him and wants to do more activities within th film stating that he will have a "blast" doing his part.

In other news, there have been rumors making rounds that Thanos will be teaming up with the God of Mischief Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in "Avengers: Infinity War".

MoviePilot theorized that Loki will hand over the Infitinity Gauntlet to Thanos as compensation for his failure during the first "Avengers" film and presents it to him from Odin's trophy room as a way to spare his life and of Asgard.

However, fans were quick to dispel the theory knowing that Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet is different from the one in Odin’s Trophy Room. Many noticed that the Gauntlet in “Thor” was for a right-handed wielder; while the teasers show Thanos wearing his Gauntlet on his left.

Marvel President Kevin Feige stated that there are two Infinity Gauntlets in the MCU and that the Avengers will fight Thanos using the other Infinity Gauntlet, now that he seeks to find all of the Infinity Stones in the MCU setting up chain of events in phase 3.

So far, the Infinity Stones that were featured in both phase 1 and phase 2 of the MCU includes the Tesseract/Space Stone, the Aether/Reality Stone, Power Stone and the Mind Stone. Only two stones remain and these are the Time Stone, which is rumored to be the Eye of Agamotto in the "Doctor Strange" movie and Soul Stone.

"Avengers: Infinity War" part 1 is slated to be release on May 4, 2018, while part 2 is scheduled on May 3, 2019.
