The Cleveland Cavaliers are seriously considering 5-foot-9 rookie Key Fielder to backup Kyrie Irving at the point guard spot, per Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.

Fielder, who turned heads with his best impersonation of All-Star playmaker Isaiah Thomas, is emerging as a strong candidate for the Cavs' backup point guard role.

Although Washburn pointed out that Fielder's size could pose a problem, particularly against taller guard, the Cavaliers are nevertheless interested in giving the fleet-footed guard a shot at the NBA.

"With Matthew Dellavedova no longer on the Cavs, Felder, who is a 5'9″ point guard, has a decent shot at a backup role, Washburn adds. Felder's size, however, does put him at a disadvantage, but, as Washburn points out, the Cavs thought highly enough of him to pay $2.4MM for his rights," via Hoops Rumors.

The Cavaliers have reportedly waived veteran shooting guard Dahntay Jones, according to NBA.com.

Jones, who was acquired by the Cavs on April 13, played in one regular-season and 15 playoff games with the Cavs. He served as the Cavs' enforcer, acting like a pest on the opposing team's key players.

Jones had his moment in Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, drawing two early fouls on Draymond Green and scored five straight points in that short yet significant span.

The 13-year veteran averaged 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds. The Cavaliers was his eighth NBA team as he previously played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks and the Los Angeles Clippers.
