"Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 will bring a new female series regular after Nicole Beharie departed in the Season 3 finale. "True Blood" alum Janina Gavankar is joining the cast as Ichabod Crane's (Tom Mison) new partner and witness named Diana.

The new character in "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 is set to fill the space that Detective Abbie Mills (Beharie) left in the Fox's drama series. Although Diana (Gavankar) and Ichabod (Mison) will be on a mission together, their characters are going to clash due to her supernatural skeptic nature and different style in handling their missions, TV Line reported.

Diana is an ex-military officer who's now the Special Agent for Homeland Security. Based from the character's description, Diana is a born leader. Despite her tough personality, she also has her softer side which Ichabod greatly admires.

The new witness is a passionate mother to her 11-year-old daughter Stella. Diana lost the person she cared for in the line of duty.  Amidst Diana and Ichabod's misunderstanding in the beginning of "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4, their common loss will drive them together.

Ichabod lost Mills, who sacrificed her life and soul to defeat Pandora (Shannyn Sossamon) and The Hidden One (Peter Mensah) in the Season 3 finale. Everyone was shocked when Season 3 ended with the death of Mills. However, Beharie's departure was speculated to be a long time coming because she wanted to leave the supernatural  TV series for quite some time.

Beharie's exit came during that time that the series was facing different issues prior to "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4. The rebooted Season 3 underwent several makeovers, including a new showrunner (Campbell), and their transfer from North Carolina to Atlanta to get the most of the tax rebates.

"The [season] finale featuring the tragic death of Abbie Mills was a very dramatic ending and a bold move for the show," producers 20th Century Fox Television and showrunner Clifton Campbell told The Hollywood Reporter. "Sleepy Hollow has always been known for its shocking finales.

The network hinted that the new season will feature supernatural creatures and more about the lives of the witnesses. "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 is set tor return mid-season in 2017.
