O' Mara accepted the role as "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 new director, but his character has not been revealed yet. The only hint about the new character is that he can be traced back to the 1940 era of the comic book, Marvel reported.

"Bringing Jason into the mix as the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency," Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb said in the publisher's statement. "Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent."

O'Mara is new to Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but his credits proved that he is an experienced talent when it comes to the superhero genre. Before he landed the role in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4, he already had a vast exposure in various DC Comics projects.

The Irish actor has voiced Batman/ Bruce Wayne in a number of animated movies such as "Batman vs. Robin," "Son of Batman," "Batman: Bad Blood," "Justice League vs. Teen Titans" and "Justice League: War, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis." He also appeared in American TV dramas, including "Vegas," "In Justice, Life on Mars," and "Terra Nova."

O'Mara's exposures on the small screen include "The Good Wife," "Complications," "Criminal Minds" and more. He is set to be seen in "Jadotville," opposite "Fifty Shades of Grey" star Jamie Dornan.  The actor will be gracing the TV series with other "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 cast, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, and Chloe Bennet.

As the series is getting a new director in the new season, Elizabeth Henstridge's character as Jemma Simmons is getting a promotion. As revealed in the series' official sypnosis, she will be the new Special Advisor to the Director in Science and Technology, however, her promotion will put her in trouble as other members begin to doubt her according to TV Line.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." showrunners include Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb.  It is produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 will be seen on Sept. 20 on ABC.
