BYD Co Ltd, one of the biggest vehicle producers in China, aims to expand into the Brazilian auto market by strengthening its ties with Correios, Brazil's biggest postal service group, China Daily reported.

BYD was established in 1995 as a private manufacturer specializing in four specific industries--information technology, cars, new-energy vehicles, and light rail systems.

Penetrating Brazil in 2013, BYD introduced its electric buses to the country for the first time, followed by other new-energy vehicles such as electric taxis and electric logistic vehicles. In 2014, BYD built a factory in Brazil due to the overwhelming patronization of the Brazilian market of the company's new-energy products.

Eyeing further expansion to the Brazilian market, BYD has recently loaned one of its T3 electric vans to Correios, which is currently assessing "green" logistics solutions by running a series of tests with electric vehicles from various auto producers.

BYD's T3 vans have a compartment capacity of 800 kilograms and a driving range of over 200 kilometers. Its descent into Brazil would signify its international debut.

Through e-mail, BYD extended their take on this recent partnership: "Correios is absolutely the leader of the country's logistics industry. Its projects will influence not only the whole industry but other international companies such as DHL and Fedex."

BYD noted that aside from Correios, they are also offering some tests and trials to other key customers to aid them in familiarizing with BYD's products.

Further, the company's international expansion and marketing strategy greatly involve promotion of electric vehicles, as well as the establishment of research and development centers and assembly line.

According to BYD, it sold about 70,000 new energy vehicles worldwide last year, marking a more than 200 percent increase from 2014. Their sales accounted for 11 percent of the world's new-energy vehicle market.

Back in May, the firm announced its target to double the sales of its e-vehicles in the country this year.
