The official KickassTorrents website may be down but new alternatives are being launched daily. The latest to join the bandwagon are kickass.cd, kickass.mx and kickass.la.

After KickassTorrents or as it is popularly known as KAT was taken down then in its place a few new mirror sites such as kickasstorrents.website and kat.am sprang up. After their launch, the Motion Picture Association, which represents all the major Hollywood studios, sent a legal notice to kat.am and asked them to take down the website within 24 hours. Much to the disappointment of the piracy community. they too have being taken down.

However, Kat.am owner did not miss a beat after these mirror sites were taken down and promptly launched three new alternatives such as kickass.la, kickass.mx and kickass.cd. He told Torrent Freak that if he does not launch a torrent site, someone else will and the cycle will keep on repeating. He also added that just taking down a website does not imply anything as there will be new mirror sites just waiting to be launched.

These new alternative sites are trying to copy the official KickassTorrents brand and are piggybacking on its name. Even though the official website may be dead, the name is alive and the brand is intact.

On the other hand, Kickass Torrents was a good competitor to The Pirate Bay. In lieu of its founder Artem Vaulim's arrest, The Pirate Bay is likely to gain a lot as now more users will flock to use its services. After the legal troubles of the founders of The Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents became the biggest torrents website in the world but the situation is now likely to change.

Vaulim was arrested in Poland on the orders of the United States government. He is charged on numerous accounts, which range from money laundering to copyright infringement, according to another report by Torrent Freak. Chicago's Federal Court also ordered the seizure of numerous domain names pertaining to the company.
