The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that the German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz sent out a recall on more than 147,000 mid-sized sedans and station wagons from 2013 to 2015 model years to have a thorough check for any engine fire risks. The car company did the retraction of all concerned vehicles to avoid unnecessary engine fires.
The U.S. safety regulator NHTSA explained the cars currently have a rubber seal inside the engine compartment that may fall into the exhaust system and trigger an engine fire. Mercedes-Benz recalled all of its CLS-class sedan and the E-class sedan and wagon, Reuters reported.
The car manufacturer giant has scheduled the said recall to begin as soon as next month. Car owners affected by the recall can easily bring their affected automobiles to their car dealers and have them repaired there for free by putting four additional retaining clips to the seal, according to CBS SF Bay Area.
Mercedes-Benz stated that the recall will commence by mid-March. Dealers will be sending notifications to car owners with the affected models. These cars will be repaired at the dealers' car shops for no additional cost whatsoever.
The German car maker also recalled another 149,000 units of CLS-class and E-class model cars in Europe and China due to the same fire engine risk problems.
