The concert of Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg were cancelled when a railing or security barrier collapsed and injured at least 42 people on Aug. 5, Friday. As the two hip hop stars performed at BB&T Pavilion in New Jersey, for the "Merry Jane Presents Dogg & Wiz Khalifa: The High Road Tour," many fans fell several feet on the floor in an accident in the venue.
It was 10:30 p.m. when the incident happened. Khalifa and Dogg were reportedly half through the "High Road Tour" concert before a big part of the railing collapsed towards the venue's center.
The railing in the Camden venue separated the lawn of the BB&T Pavilion from the seating section inside, Philadelphia Inquirer reported. It collapsed when people leaned on it to see the two rappers on the secondary stage of the arena.
The duo reportedly requested everyone to "stand up" shortly before the incident. The two artists were escorted away by security as the fans got help.
An eyewitness told the newspaper there were about 50 people who fell approximately three meters or 10 feet to the concrete floor. Many audience members tumbled on top of each other. As people suddenly fell down , an eyewitness named Pedro Gomez saw a guy who had a part of his face open and he kept touching his head.
Videos were posted on social media showing Dogg and Khalifa performing when the incident happened.Some concertgoers claimed it was announced that they wait for the concert to resume. However, the event was cancelled and people evacuated.
There was an emergency area being reportedly set up adjacent to the car park of the venue where injured people were seen in stretches. Aside from bumps, bruises and broken bones, one person was critically injured and was taken to Cooper Trauma Center, county spokesman Dan Keashen told NBC10 Philadelphia. Such person who had the most serious injuries was reportedly released on Aug. 6, Saturday, but no further details were disclosed.
