In case "Wayward Pines" is renewed for a third season, some reports said it would be the last of the TV show. The last season of "Wayward Pines" ended last July 27. After the conclusion, news about the TV show being renewed has not be brought up yet by either the network or the showrunners.

This has caused fans to think if the show is still scheduled for a third season. Executive producer M. Night Shaylaman previously confirmed during the opening of season 2 that the series is due for three seasons at most, Slash Film reported.

In a statement released during the event, Shaylaman said, "I think we can say it's a three-season story. If we get the opportunity to tell the third and final season, we can finish the story."

The first season started with the protagonist, Matt Dillon, an FBI agent who was somehow stuck inside Wayward Pines. In the second season, it featured what lies beyond the borders of the small town. It showed how the Abbies play an important role in the story while a new character in the name of Jason Patric was introduced.

The conclusion of season 2 was tragic since Matt was killed off at the last episode.  Now that the main character died, questions are being asked on how the showrunners with start with the new chapter. It can be recalled that the last season revealed how Jason and Kerry are related.Co-producer Blake Crouch revealed the next installment involves the two characters, who despite being mother and son, would be attracted to each other.

Despite struggling with its rating last season, the supernatural drama remained to be the number one scripted show of the summer according to Fox Television CEO Dana Walden. "Wayward Pines" received an average 2.4 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating in live plus same day ratings, TV Line reported.

As of the moment, Walden admitted they are still waiting for the other numbers, pertaining to the multi-platform figures set to be revealed in the coming days. They will use this as basis for the series' renewal.
