Netflix is adding another character to its growing roster of Marvel superheroes. With the highly-awaited September release date of "Luke Cage" just around the corner, sources confirmed that heroine Misty Knight will appear on the show as well as her own stand-alone series.

Marvel superhero Misty Knight will make her television debut on "Luke Cage," which is due out on Netflix on Sept. 30. Complex reported that the character will be brought to life by Simone Missick, who previously appeared in television series "Wayward Pines".

Misty Knight is a fan favorite among fans of the Marvel comic books, and is romantically linked to both Luke Cage and Danny Rand. She's a NYPD detective skilled in martial arts. She was injured while averting a bomb threat. Tony Stark treated her by providing her with a bionic arm that also gave her super strength.

Second leads have performed spectacularly well in all of Netflix's live-action adaptation of Marvel characters so much so that Punisher, portrayed by Jon Bernthal in "Daredevil" season 2, is getting his own show. Notably, "Luke Cage" is also a spinoff of "Jessica Jones." With that said, there's much talk that Missick's Misty Knight will be getting the spinoff treatment as well.

"We're very lucky in a sense that our casts are so rich and deep and so diverse," Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb told The Hollywood Reporter. "We certainly have plans for all of our characters. A lot of it has to do with exactly how many shows Netflix is actually going to let us make. We're up to six now."

Loeb commends Missick's performance as Misty Knight, describing her as having "knocked it so far out of the park that we're still trying to find the baseball."

"And I can tell you that what she's doing on Luke Cage, it's just incredible," Loeb added. "The fans are really going to love it."

If ever a spinoff does come her way, Missick is ready for it. As a matter of fact, she even wants to work with screenwriter extraordinaire Shonda Rhimes. Fans, too, are in on the idea, as they supported the actress with the loudest cheers at the "Luke Cage" panel at Comic Con.
