Production continues on the live-action adaptation of Sui Ishida's "Tokyo Ghoul." Latest reports claimed that the "Journey to the Shore" actress Yuu Aoi, "The Boy and the Beast" star Yo Oizumi and "Strayer's Chronicle" actor Nobuyuki Suzuki has joined the upcoming movie.

On Aug. 6, the official website of the "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action adaptation has revealed three new cast members. Yuu has been cast to play Rize Kamishiro, Nobuyuki as Kotaro Amon and Yo as Kureo Mado.

They will join previously announced actors, Masataka Kubota and Fumika Shimizu. Both stars will play the protagonist, Ken Kaneki and heroine Touka Kirishima, respectively.

Based on the original manga series, "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action film follows a university student, Ken Kaneki (Masataka), who barely survives a deadly encounter with Rize Kamishiro, a human eating ghoul. He is saved from the latter when a steel frame falls on the ghoul.

However, he turns into a half-ghoul after he receives an organ transplant from Rize. Now, similar to normal ghouls, Ken should devour human flesh to survive.

"Anniversary" director Kentaro Hagiwara will direct the film. With an intended release in summer of 2017, the filming for "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action film have already begun last July and will most likely wrap up in September.

The exciting news comes as a big surprise, though many fans most likely feel that a live-action adaptation is a past due. In 2013, "Tokyo Ghoul" was one of the best-selling manga in Japan with more than 1,666,348 estimated sales.

The series was then adapted into a popular anime television series in 2014 and has spun off light novels, stage, and video game versions, as well. More details about the eagerly anticipated project will be revealed soon.

However, numerous fans cannot help but ponder whether the live-action adaptation would spell disadvantage for "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3. It was reported previously that the eagerly anticipated third season may not air until early 2017 due to the manga's lack of story content.

The storyline of the anime's third season is not yet known, though there are reports claiming that it will follow Touka Kirishima's, a ghoul and an ex-waitress at Anteiku, background story.

"This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt," Anime writer Bob told Anime Maru. "Although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored."
