Mel Gibson's ex Oksana Grigorieva will receive $500,000 less out of her $750,000 settlement with the actor for violating the an agreement after she publicly spoke about their alleged domestic abuse case in a 2013 interview.
The California Court of Appeals ruled that the Russian singer broke the terms an agreement between her and the "What Women Want" actor when she sat down for an interview on "The Howard Stern Show" two years ago to talk about Gibson's alleged abuse, according to TMZ.
As a result, the 60-year-old actor is no longer required to pay Grigorieva the balance amount of the $750,000 settlement. Gibson has already coughed up the first of three $250,000 installments.
The terms were part of a 2011 custody agreement over the former couple's daughter and stated that Grigorieva would have to forfeit the right to the outstanding settlement money if she failed to stay quiet about the domestic abuse case, according to People.
In 2010, Gibson, 60, and Grigorieva, 46, were in the news after they were involved in a public fight, which the songstress claims took a violent turn after the actor punched her repeatedly in the head and face at his Malibu residence.
Gibson denied the allegations but admitted to slapping Grigorieva, claiming that he did it in an attempt to stop her from shaking their baby daughter Lucia (now 6 years old) back and forth.
He was sentenced to three years of probation in addition to counseling sessions and community service in 2011 after he pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence.
The actor had agreed to a $15 million settlement so long as Grigorieva did not release the secretly recorded audiotapes of a private conversation between them. However, once tapes of Gibson's profanity-laced rant against the musician surfaced online, the settlement amount shrunk to $750,000.
