Warner Bros. announced on Thursday (Aug. 11) that Dave Franco, Olivia Munn and Jackie Chan among others have been signed on to voice the characters of the upcoming ninja-themed "LEGO Ninjago Movie."

The trio joins an all-star cast including Justin Theroux, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña, Fred Armisen, Zach Woods and Abbi Jacobson, who will also be lending their voices for the third installment in the "LEGO" series, according to Deadline.

Inspired by the wildly popular LEGO line of toys, "LEGO Ninjago Movie" follows the story of Lloyd, member of a group of ninja warriors and Lego master builders, who under the leadership of kung fu master Wu, must protect the city of Ninjago from the evil villain Garmadon, who also turns out to be Lloyd's father.


The official plot is further described by the studio as follows: "Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their true power."

Jackie Chan plays the role of Wu, Franco voices Lloyd and Theroux provides his vocals for the ominous Garmadon. Munn will voice the character of Lloyd's mother while the others including Peña, Armisen, Nanjiani and Jacobson will star as the rest of Lloyd's ninja gang, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Charlie Bean, whose credits include "Tron: Uprising" and "Robotboy," will be making his debut as a director of a feature film with "Ninjago" based on a re-written screenplay originally penned by Hillary Winston, Bob Logan and Paul Fisher. Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Roy Lee. Maryann Garger will serve as producers on the project while Jill Wilfert, Chris McKay, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Keith Malone will executive produce.

"LEGO Ninjago Movie" is slated to hit theaters on Sept. 22, 2017 but before its release, fans of the "LEGO" film series can catch the Will Arnett starrer "LEGO Batman Movie" when it bows out on Feb. 10, 2017.
