The fifth instalment in the successful animated film series "Ice Age" is set to hit Chinese theatres on Aug. 23, a month after it debuted in the U.S.

A sequel to the 2012 film "Continental Drift," "Ice Age: Collision Course" will be having a version in Chinese, with Chang Yuan, Shen Teng and Mali lending their voices.

Comedian Shen will play as the Buck, the film's adventure-seeker weasel.

At an event in Beijing, Shen was quoted as saying by the Global Times that "it was a little challenging to dub Buck, who is full of wisdom and humor, but I managed to make him interesting."

In the English version, voice actors include old-timers Ray Romano, Jennifer Lopez, Queen Latifah, Simon Pegg, Denis Leary and Chris Wedge, as well as new cast members Neil deGrasse Tyson, Melissa Rauch, Jessie J and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Singer Jessie J also performed the film's closing song "My Superstar."

"Collision Course," which was first shown at the Sydney Film Festival on June 19, has so far grossed more than $305 million globally. It is the first animated film to ever reach a fifth instalment.

Family-themed movies seem to be popular in China this month. Pixar's "Finding Dory," the sequel to the well-loved hit "Finding Nemo," is currently being shown in theaters.

Universal Pictures' animated film "The Secret Life of Pets" also started rolling out last Aug. 2.

The Pixar sequel is currently the second box-office hit in China, scooping up $19 million gross sales within only four days.

In "Collision Course," characters Buck, Sid, Manny and Diego are back to save the world from a meteor strike.

The film was produced by 20th Century Fox and was released in 2D and 3D. Mike Thurmeier directed the film while Michael J. Wilson and Michael Berg wrote the screenplay.
