Nadal, who is coming off a left wrist injury that forced him on the sidelines for more than two months, feels competitive again, insisting that he has the right motivation to add another Grand Slam title in his illustrious career.

"I know I was ready this year to have strong results in Grand Slams. I get injury. I was unlucky.  But I feel competitive again.  I feel with the right motivation," Nadal said, reports Cincinnati.com.

"And in this moment of my career, the most important thing is enjoy and be happy doing what I am doing.  I believe that I am going to keep having chances to win Grand Slams in the future if I am healthy. I have the right confidence that that can happen."

Nadal last won a Grand Slam title back in 2014 at the French Open, where he defeated career rival Novak Djokovic in the final round. Ever since winning his record ninth Roland Garros title, Nadal has yet to display his vintage form, injuries and setbacks contributing to his demise.

His next shot for a major title will be at the US Open in New York later this month. But it will be an uphill road for Nadal as he faces the likes of Djokovic and Andy Murray, two of the top favorites to win the the tournament.

However, If Nadal could recapture his magic at the Cincinnati Masters, he may have a chance to conquer the remaining Grand Slam event of the year.

Meanwhile, after a remarkable run at the 2016 Rio Olympics that saw Nadal win a Gold Medal in doubles competition, the King of Clay returns to the ATP World Tour to compete for his second Cincinnati Masters title at the Western & Southern Open.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner admitted his left wrist may still bother him when he starts playing at the ATP Masters 1000 event, but his post-Olympic form suggests he is ready for some tennis action this week.

"Cincinnati is a Masters 1000. It's a big event ... it's obvious that's going be tough," Nadal said. "I am here to try my best and I am here to play at the highest level that I could."
