The great Niagara Falls freezes into a huge crystal-like lake encasing trees into its frozen shells are drawing in lots of local and foreign tourists alike. The majestic falls is totally frozen on the surface which makes magnets many tourists to come and see the nature spectacle.

The great falls was not frozen down below as it still flows freely underneath the pile of frozen waters. However, people can see the brink and which attracts people to get a glance of it. This is the second straight year that this has happened after so much winter, according to The Weather Network.

Many of the tourists are locals and some are from foreign states too. There are people who came as far as Alabama and even from overseas. Albeit that the falls is ice hard on the surface water is ice cold and flower underneath. It is not uncommon for parts of the falls to turn into ice during winter. The only recorded time that the falls totally stopped flowing was in 1848 where there was an ice jam up-river.

The current frozen status of the Niagara Falls is at about 85 percent coverage, but that does not beat the record of 94.7percent in 1979 explained the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, CNN reported.

The previous year's record was noted at around 92.5 percent, which was the second highest in the Niagara frozen record according to the agency.

Moreover, that does not end there for there is still time for the year to contend the record since an extremely cold artic air will allow for ice to grow in the days to come disclosed the National Weather Service.
