Here comes another patriotic donation by the "Descendants of the Sun" actress, Song Hye-Kyo. To celebrate Korea's National Freedom Day, the 32-year-old actress once again donated thousands of Korean brochure.
On Aug. 15, Monday, the Hallyu star and professor Seo Kyung Deok of Sungshin Women's University attracted the attention of the public with the distribution of 10,000 Korean brochure at the Ultoro Village in Japan, Asia Starz reported. The said pamphlet contain data in regards to a historic Korean site in Japan.
The "Full House" actress and professor Seo have for some time been an accomplice in making the same patriotic act. In the past, the two donated 10,000 Korean brochures to the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Provisional Government Building of the Republic of Korea at Changsha, China, as well.
It is said that professor Seo was the one who designed the pamphlet, while the actress funded its materials and the printing. Remarking on her act of solidarity, Song said in a statement that she felt sad when the brochures available at any archeological sites can be read in every language, but not in her mother tongue.
"Whenever I travel for work or leisure, I see brochures in Chinese and Japanese at various archaeological sites and museums, but no Korean brochures," Song said in a statement obtained by All Kpop. "I get very sad and disappointed by that. It also harms my pride as a citizen of Korea."
The Daegu-born actress gained immense popularity through television dramas such as 2000's "Autumn In My Heart," 2003's "All In," 2004's "Full House and 2013's "That Winter, The Wind Blows." She recently starred in the mega-hit series "Descendants Of The Sun" along with actor Song Joong-Ki.
The 16-episode drama follows an army captain, Yoo Si Jin (Joong-Ki) and a Cardiothoracic surgeon, Kang Mo-Yeon (Hye-Kyo), who fall in love with one another while working in the midst of a calamity, war-torn areas. The drama aired on KBS 2TV from Feb. 24 to April 14.
"Descendants Of The Sun," which also starred Jin Goo and Kim Ji-Won, re-established Hye-Kyo as a pioneer of the Hallyu wave, topping popularity surveys in Asia. She was also noted for her immense brand recognition across South Korea.
