Pokémon GO players opting to cheat their way up to the game will need to deal with the two types of bans from Niantic. The ban can be for good or permanent (now known as Perma-ban) and temporary or soft ban. And there are cases that players were merely caught in a glitch called Endless Login.

The latter, according to Heavy.com, when it hit a player can be mistaken for Perma-ban or Soft Ban but as noted by the same report, banning is normally followed by an email alert from Niantic within 24 hours. If no message is received and one is still unable to access his or her Pokémon GO account, Heavy offers an easy fix that can be viewed here.

Now if the banning is for real, it can be two things - temporary or permanent. As mentioned, it happens without a warning but with an official notice from the GO developer later on. Whatever the ban imposed, the reasons remain the same. Players used GPS spoofing to fake their location or avoid walking.

Take note that there are instances when players are moving too fast - riding in a car or travelling by plane - but not using GPS spoofing tools yet Niantic reads the acts as cheating. Normally, banning will follow.

Or when they get caught using a bot to replace the actual player and a third-party Pokémon GO tracking app, the latter an advantage to know in advance where Pokémon spawn. These last two usually lead to permanent banning.

But note again that long or extended bans are not necessarily Perma-bans. According to Game 'N' Guide, there are times that players experience soft bans that are longer than usual. As the punishment is temporary, it will be lifted automatically after some time.

And what to do in case of Perma-ban? Players can lodge an appeal, the process of which can be found here. But the easier way is the creation of a fresh Pokémon GO account, which is highly likely as Heavy.com said on its report that "the bans appear to apply to specific accounts, not IP addresses or phones. So you can always try creating a new account."

As for Pokémon GO players that were soft banned, iTech Post shared a trick to get rid of the ban and quick: "Just simply find a Poké Stop and click-and-swipe the circle repeatedly for about 30-40 times. After that the color will change to violet signaling that the soft ban is now removed."
